Stellar mass as the ‘glocal’ driver of galaxies’ stellar population properties

چکیده
The properties of the stellar populations in a galaxy are known to correlate with amount and distribution mass. We take advantage maps light-weighted mean age Agewr metallicity Z*wr for sample 362 galaxies from integral-field spectroscopic survey CALIFA (summing up >600,000 individual regions approximately 1 kpc linear size), produced our previous works, investigate how these local react stellar-mass surface density mu* global total mass M* e. establish existence i) dual mu*-Agewr relation, resulting young sequence an old ridge, ii) mu*-Z*wr overall independent regions. parameters (M* and, possibly secondarily, e) determine set maximum attainable mu*, which increases M*. affects shape normalization relations threshold $\sim 10^{10.3}$ MSun, above they remain unchanged. conclude that is "glocal" (i.e. simultaneously local) driver population properties. consider mass-age mass-metallicity connected, particular discuss it possible, single produce two different quiescent star-forming respectively, as reported literature. Structural differences classes key explain duality scaling appear essential modelling baryonic cycle galaxies.

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
متن کاملThe Universal Stellar Mass–stellar Metallicity Relation for Dwarf Galaxies
We present spectroscopic metallicities of individual stars in seven gas-rich dwarf irregular galaxies (dIrrs), and we show that dIrrs obey the same mass–metallicity relation as the dwarf spheroidal (dSph) satellites of both the Milky Way and M31: Z∗ ∝ M 0.30±0.02 ∗ . The uniformity of the relation is in contradiction to previous estimates of metallicity based on photometry. This relationship is...

متن کاملHomogenization of the Stellar Population along Late–Type Spiral Galaxies
We present a study of the broadband UBV color profiles for 257 Sbc barred and non–barred galaxies, using photoelectric aperture photometry data from the literature. Using robust statistical methods, we have estimated the color gradients of the galaxies, as well as the total and bulge mean colors. A comparative photometric study using CCD images was done. In our sample, the color gradients are n...
متن کاملThe Stellar Initial Mass Function in Primordial Galaxies
In the context of star formation through fragmentation of an extremely metal-deficient protogalactic cloud, the gravitational collapse of filamentary gas clouds is explored with one-dimensional numerical hydrodynamics coupled with non-equilibrium chemistry of H2 and HD. It is found that the cloud evolution is governed mainly by the initial central density (nc,0) and H2 abundance (xH2,0). In par...
